The numbers speak for themselves.

There are interesting trends showing in the table which clearly demonstrate the development of ICYS, the importance of our competition. Many useful conclusions can be deduced from the numbers, which are to be made by yourselves.

During the history of the competition, students from Europe, Asia, South-America and Africa have participated, from more than 30 countries. In the course of 25 years of the ICYS the conference was organized in 13 countries which are the following:

Hungary(1994, 1996, 1998), Belarus(1995, 1997, 1999), the Netherlands(2000, 2004, 2012), Poland(2001, 2005, 2009), Germany(2006, 2017), Russia (2007, 2011), Indonesia(2010, 2013), Serbia (2014, 2018), Georgia(2002), Czech Republic(2003), Ukraine(2008), Turkey(2015), Romania (2016). The countries whose delegation has never missed a conference, are only Hungary and Belarus.

At the 20th anniversary conference, poster section debuted. From last year on, poster has also become a compulsory presentation form. Students now measure their knowledge in 7 sections.

Successful participation in the ICYS competition nowadays expects the students to research scientific topicand to presentthe experimental and theoretical results in an oral presentation. The achievements should be summarized at the beginning in an abstractform and presented on a posterfor the publicity of the conference.

It is a great thing that students get acquainted with all the details of scientific research in their young age and learn the most important elements of scientific communication, too. That practice will be very useful for them in the future if they choose such a career.

ICYS is a proof that sciences can be fascinating and provide great occasion for contacts and friendship among young people from all over the world. Nowadays, when the popularity of sciences permanently decreases this kind event has special importance.

ICYS is also an expected event for team leaders because it is a bright opportunity to exchange their experiences obtained in the work with gifted students. Friendship between leaders is also very important for the future of the conference, because the constant presence of leaders ensures continuity.

Our hosts offer our young participants a pleasant environment in Malaysia, in this exotic country to be successful. By preparing a number of programmes, they have worked hard to show their country’s natural values and the diversity of their culture.

Great thanks for it in advance!

We are looking forward to meeting you!

Dr. Zsuzsanna Rajkovits PhD president of ICYS
